Prasanthi Nilayam is the abode of Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba who was an incarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba. Both Sathya Sai Baba and Shirdi Sai Baba are incarnations of Lord Shiv who is the Almighty.

Prasanthi and Nilayam are words from one of the numerous Indian languages. Prasanthi means ultimate peace, and Nilayam means abode. So Prasanthi Nilayam means abode of ultimate peace.

People from around the world come to visit Prasanthi Nilayam and have the darshan of the samadhi of Bhagwan Sathya Sai Baba who was well-known among his devotees to perform miracles. Bhagwan Sathya Sai Baba was born on 23 November 1926 and died on 24 April 2011.

The ashram at Prasanthi Nilayam has bhajans in the morning and in the evening. There are three canteens, namely. the Western Canteen, the North Indian Canteen, and the South Indian Canteen, which serve food to the people at an affordable price. Accommodation in the ashram is available for visitors, and hotels outside the ashram have rooms at reasonable tariff.

There is a super specialty hospital outside the ashram, and this hospital provides free treatment to the people irrespective of their identities. Isaac Tigrett, the Founder Chairman of Hard Rock Cafe and the House of Blues, had donated money for the construction of this hospital.
