Written by: Sandeep Sinha - Scientific Poet of the 21st Century

The United States of America is a great country with not only countless inventions and discoveries credited to its pioneering researchers and entrepreneurs but also with beautiful geographical features that attract tourists from across the world. Grand Canyon is one such natural wonder in the USA.

The Grand Canyon is located in the American state of Arizona and has Colorado river flowing through its valleys. It is believed that this canyon is about 17 million years old. The rocks surrounding the Grand Canyon are contrastingly colorful and create an awe among the spectators.

The Native Americans still inhabit parts of the Grand Canyon. Since Europeans have been known for their explorations around the world, a Spanish explorer was the first person to visit the Grand Canyon in the 16th century. Now this beautiful canyon is visited by tourists from around the globe.

With the persistent efforts of American Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, the Grand Canyon became a US National Park in 1919. The area around Grand Canyon is rich in Uranium; so there have been numerous efforts to mine Uranium from the region. However, the US government has not permitted mining in the Grand Canyon area to preserve the natural habitat of the region. It is due to the collective efforts of the people and the government that the Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

There are chartered glider flights to have a breathtaking view of the beauty of the Grand Canyon. You can see the colorful rocks from a close range as you fly over the majestic Grand Canyon.

Wishing you a pleasant trip to the Grand Canyon,
