Written by: Sandeep Sinha - Scientific Poet of the 21st Century

What is the purpose of human life? Why are you born in a specific country and family? Why are you poorer or wealthier from the people around you? Did you have life before this birth? Will you be born again? If these questions are coming to your mind, then it is time for you to do some introspection through meditation and yoga, and one of the best places on planet earth to learn spirituality is Rishikesh.

So where is Rishikesh? Well, Rishikesh is a small town at the foothills of the Himalayan mountains in the state of Uttarakhand in India. The name Rishikesh refers to one of the incarnations of Hindu God, Vishnu. In Sanskrit, the word Rishi means a sage. The town is situated on the banks of the holy river, Ganga.

Rishikesh has several ashrams where sages live and practice spirituality. These sages have renounced their material and family bondages and live a simple life. They are well-versed in Hindu scriptures, such as Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagawad Geetha, and Ramayana. The ashrams in Rishikesh also disseminate spiritual teachings to the truth seekers through classes on yoga. Some of the popular ashrams in Rishikesh are Paramarth Ashram, Geeta Ashram, Geeta Bhawan, etc.

The freshness of air and the environment in the ashrams is sufficient to motivate a truth seeker to learn yoga. The word "yoga" means harmony; here, it refers to the harmony of body, mind, and soul. It needs rigorous practice to attain spiritual elevation, and Rishikesh is a good place for a beginner to learn spirituality.

Every human being has spirit or soul that dwells inside the brain. The objective of spirituality is to enable you realize your spiritual identity. It needs regular practice through which a person can realize the metaphysical soul. The process of self-realization or spiritual realization requires cleansing of impurities of mind, such as ego, hatred, jealousy, lust, and attachment. It is not that easy to attain purity because of interaction in a society having good as well as evil people. It may take several births for a person to attain the highest level of purity for attaining self-realization, while another person may be able to attain self-realization in a single birth. It all depends on the karmas i.e. actions of previous births due to which different human beings have different spiritual levels.

If you are truly interested to realize your true spiritual identity and want to realize God within you and around everywhere, then feel free to stay in Rishikesh.
