A Fantastic Day Trip in Fabulous Prague

Written by: Sandeep Sinha - Scientific Poet of the 21st Century

A trip to Europe is incomplete without a trip to Prague, which is the capital city of Czech Republic. Prague is pronounced as Praha in Czech language. The population of Prague is slightly more than 1 million while that of the entire country is about 10 million. Although a cozy city, it has several places of importance for tourists visiting Prague from other parts of Europe and other countries.

Wenceslas Square is the heart of the city center, and most of the tourist buses start and end their trips from this rendezvous. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas and is highly revered by the Czech people. The words, "Saint Wenceslas, duke of the Czech land, prince of ours, do not let perish us nor our descendants," are etched at the base of the statue of Saint Wenceslas. There are numerous hotels, restaurants, and offices in the city center around Wenceslas Square, which is also popular for public demonstrations due to its strategic location and importance.

Prague was initially the capital of Czechoslovakia when the latter was under communist rule. Later on, Prague became the capital of Czech Republic when Slovakia separated as a new country.

The other places of tourist attraction include the Charles Bridge, Vltava River, and the Prague Castle. It is interesting to visit the Prague Castle and notice the change of statue-like guards at the entrance. Numerous sculptures can be seen near the roof of the buildings inside the castle.

The interior of Prague is well-connected by its tram network and makes commuting easier for the residents as well as for the tourists from other countries.

Summer is a good time to visit Prague although enthusiastic tourists would love to visit Prague any time of the year. Colorful Czech crystal and glass souvenirs are worth buying for your home and for your near and dear ones. If you like chocolates, try the freshly made chocolates from any of the numerous bakeries in Prague and spread sweetness to the people you meet.
Enjoy your trip to Prague!
